WORKSHOP

DESIGN YOUR OWN ORIGINAL QUILT

(2 - FULL DAYS)

?

This 2 day class can be tailored to focus on either the Creative Curves Rulers (circular curves), the Creative Curves Ellipse Rulers (oval curves) - OR - a combination quilt that would use both types of curved rulers combined in one quilt. The Creative Curves Kaleidoscope Ruler and the new Multi-Angle, Wedge Ruler also have Two Day Design Workshops.

With the Circular and/or Oval curved rulers, depending on the focus original quilt YOU want to learn to create, the workshop starts on paper with a traditional quilt block. On Day One graph paper is used to transform a traditional block into several variations of curved blocks. Once the changes have been turned into a quilt YOU want to make, elements from the newly designed curved quilt are identifyed into the curved pieces that will be needed and you will learn how to cut them. Finally fabric choices are made and the curved pieces are cut, then sewing is started using Virginia's unique 'No Pins' sewing technique for circular and/or oval curves. On Day Two the wallhanging is completed and the final step of the workshop is completed by designing a unique original curved border for each students quilt. The Creative Curves 2" or 3" Rulers (circular curves) can used to make the original wallhangings, the Creative Curves Ellipse Rulers (oval curves) may be also be used and/or a combination depending on which Workshop is chosen.

With the Kaleidoscope Ruler, the Kaleidoscope Mosaic is used to create several original designs, including one that could be made into a Landscape. Once an original design has been decided on, choosing fabric and learing how to break the design into repeatable combinations of fabric, which takes advantage of the unique rapid piecing technique that is the unique advantage of this remarkable ruler. Day Two of this workshop includes finishing the quilt and designing a unique original Border for each students quilt.

Creating original Blocks with the Multi-Angle, Wedge Ruler starts on Day One with designing a wide variety of potential designs by using the Ruler first as a protractor to draw lines on a series of squares. After drawing several different designs and 'playing' with them to create an original design or pattern, the next step is deciding on the size of the squares or rectangles to be made as well as the fabric that will be used to make YOUR original quilt. Once fabric choices are made and cut, sewing is started. Day Two includes finishing YOUR original quilt and the Workshop is completed by designing a unique original border for each students quilt.

Taught by the author and inventor of the Creative Curves Rulers© (circular curves), the Creative Curves Ellipse Rulers© (oval curves), the Creative Curves Kaleidoscope Ruler©, and the Multi-Angle, Wedge Ruler, several curved books, a Kaleidoscope Book and the Multi-Angle, Wedge Ruler Sampler Booklet.
