CUTTING "DRUNKARDS PATH" PATTERNS WITH

THE CREATIVE CURVES RULERS

VIRGINIA A. WALTON C1999

The Drunkard's Path pattern and its many variations are made from two different size squares. The Background Fabric square (Fabric #1) traditionally is one inch (1") larger than the Fabic Square (Fabric #2) from which the Quarter Circle is cut. The Background square (Fabric #1) can be more or less than 1" larger but that is the traditional difference.

One CREATIVE CURVES RULER will be used to cut Both "curves" (3", 2", or 1 1/2" Ruler). Both of the "curves" (Concave and Convex) that are on each of the CREATIVE CURVES RULERS are designed to match - once the seams are sewn.

For example, to use the CREATIVE CURVES 3' RULER:

For the Background Fabric: Cut a Strip 4 1/2" x 42". Then cut it into the number of 4 1/2" squares that are needed for the Background Fabric. Next, align the 3" Ruler as seen in Diagram A and cut the curve.

For the Quarter Circle Fabric: Cut a Strip 3 1/2" x 42". Then cut it into the number of 3 1/2" squares that are needed for the Quarter Circles. Next align the 3" Ruler as seen in Diagram B and cut the curve.
