This original Scrap Quilt of Batik fabrics was designed to show the potential of creating original designs using the a new non-curve ruler, the "Multi-Angle, Wedge Ruler". While making squares is the usual starting shape to create an original design, rectangles can also be used and this quilt is an example of using both. Until the invention of this remarkable tool, sewing different Angles (Wedges) together wasn't easy, however, this new Ruler includes a special 'Slot' for each of the Angles on the Ruler (5 to 60 degrees) so that the 'point' for each of the Angles can be cut off at the exact 1/4" seam allowance. creating a Wedge that makes it possible to sew a wide variety of Angles together. For example, this quilt is made with the following Angles: 20, 30, and 40 degrees. While original Blocks can be easily made, traditional Blocks are also part of the variety of designs that are possible and these will also be explored during the class.
